Fully facilitated war heroes’ village; "Rana Jayaviru Housing Village" at Ipalogama in Anuradhapura was handed over to war heroes yesterday (November 22) by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The newly constructed war heroes’ village comprised of 1509 fully equipped houses in an area of 180 acres. Needy soldiers from the Army, Navy, and Air force were the proud owners of the newly constructed and the ownership documents were handed over at at a simple but a historic ceremony by the President.
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, President’s Secretary Lalith Weerathunga and several other distinguished invitees were present to witness the history in the making.
The President declared his intention of constructing another 50,000 houses for forces personnel under the Rana Viru (war heroes) village program.
The Ipalogama war heroes’ village is the largest war heroes’ village in Sri Lanka and the project of building 50,000 housing units for Tri Service personnel is financed by the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ program in co-operation with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
The project has been scheduled for completion within five years period, with a target of 10,000 houses in each year.
As the first phase housing scheme in Ipolagama is finished, the government is to begin the next stage at Horowpathana in Anuradhapura.
Each housing project includes schools, shopping complexes, gymnasiums and other needy facilities such as banks, post offices, medical centers, libraries, play ground and nurseries.
Shiranthi Rajapaksa ceremonially opened the Nursery School at the Ipalogama Rana Jayaviru village yesterday.
