The Government today decided not to block any roads during VIP visits except for the country’s President.
The decision was taken as people are immensely inconvenienced due to traffic jam when VIPs tour the city, blocking the roads, Government sources told Asian Tribune.
The decision was taken by President Rajapaksa following many public complaints.
“The decision will apply across the board starting from ministers, VIPs any other dignitaries including armed forces too,” sources said.
However the Defence Ministry will make exceptions when a VIP whose life is under threat tours the city.
“The Ministry will decide on the level of the threat and accord security accordingly closing the roads if necessary,” sources added.
