Gillian Lees the thought leadership specialist is to make the keynote address on ‘Enterprise Governance – Restoring boardroom leadership at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) at the CIMA Technical Symposium 2009.
Gillian has over a decade of experience in working on corporate governance issue and was heavily involved in the IFAC/ CIMA Enterprise Governance project. She played an instrumental role in developing the CIMA Strategic Scorecard which promotes boards focusing on both aspects of conformance and performance. She has written articles in numerous publications and has presented widely on enterprise governance and the scorecard. She is currently developing CIMA’s thinking on how organizational boards can engage in strategy more effectively, particularly in the context of a downturn.
The recent turbulent conditions in the world’s economic and financial markets have thrown the spotlight on corporate governance again. While there are many contributory factors to the crisis, one key theme that surface is the ability of boards or equivalent governing bodies of organizations to oversee strategy and risk effectively.
Ms Gillian will focus on how board’s effectiveness can be enhanced, in the areas of overseeing strategy and risks. She will address the behavioural and structural issues underpinning board effectiveness.
