The Tamil National Alliance MP MK Sivajilingam made money deposit indicating his interest in contesting in the Presidential election which is due on January 26.
As the Tamil National alliance was not interested in contesting or making available a Tamil candidate for the Presidential election, MP Sivajilingam will be contesting the elections as an independent candidate.
He has voiced in overseas that the Tamil people did not want to vote for either President Mahinda Rajapaksa or his rival and opposition candidate Major General (retired) Sarath Fonseka. He had also said that both candidates were responsible for the killing of innocent Tamil civilians in the final battle between the LTTE and Sri Lankan armed forces.
MK Sivajilingam is a former TELO member and elected to Parliament representing the Ilankai Tamilarasu Katchi in the last Parliament election.
An official from the Department of Electrion Secretariat said that so far 17 candidates have made money6 deposits for the presidential election.

TNA's Sivajilingam made deposit
Mr.Sivajilingam has every right to contest the presidential elections. My humble openion is that people like Sivajilingam is a disgrace to the Tamil people. The Tamil people do not know what his intentions are by his contesting the Presidential Elections. We can only go on digging the dirt among the present so called Tamil leaders. They have destroyed the leaders like Neelan Thiruchelvan who was a candle of light for the Tamils.
