Sri Lanka Government categorically denied that the information about Thaksin Shinawatra will be appointed as an economic adviser.

With reference to the recent media speculation that former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is poised to be appointed as an economic adviser to the Government of Sri Lanka, the Foreign Ministry stated that those speculations were baseless.

The Government of Sri Lanka assures that such speculations will not anyway affect the excellent bilateral relations that exist between Sri Lanka and Thailand.

During a telephone conversation, Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya had with Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama yesterday, the latter assured that the Government of Sri Lanka greatly values the relationship with the government and the people of Thailand, and will not allow any room for jeopardising the warm relations that exist between the two countries.

It is also learnt that both ministers also discussed ways of strengthening future cooperation.

It is a sound decision taken

It is a sound decision taken by the SriLankan government not to appoint Thaksin a person who has been alleged to have committed a great number of curruptions during his office as the primeminter of Thailand. He is not a leader who is respected or liked by the majority of Thai nationals. Further, I personally feel that why SriLanka needs to appoint an economic adviser from outside SriLanka? Aren't there capable people in Sri Lanka?
