High dreams of ministerial portfolios in the midst of TNA leadership
The sensational news that is in circulation in the Colombo political circle is about the two leading members of the TNA towing with the idea of holding portfolios in the future Sarath Foneska led administration- in case he won the presidential election, has made many eyebrows raised.
This information is strengthened by the fact that so far the SMS leadership of the TNA has not reacted to assertions by the leader of the opposition Ranil Wickeramsinghe, that Foneska once elected would dissolve parliament and form a caretaker cabinet in which both JVP and the TNA would be represented.
Though this revelations was made a few weeks ago and repeated more than once by the leader of the United National Party (UNP), the SMS leadership of the TNA consisting of Sampanthan , Mavai Senathirajah and Suresh Premachandran have been maintaining a mysterious silence on this announcement.
It is indeed intriguing to note that they have purposely avoided countering these assertion while being engaged in holding a serious of political dialogue with both the presidential candidate of the opposition General (retired) Sarath Foneska and the UNP leader Ranil Wickeramsinghe.
The other interesting aspect of this is that even JVP too has thought it fit not to endorse or deny it.
Any prospect of any member of the parliament of the TNA joining the Sri Lankan cabinet is to most of the party MPs, is a matter for revulsion, given to the policy stance of the Alliance since its formation in 2001, and its public adaption by the LTTE in the 2004 April general election.
“ It is clear that strange things are happening in the TNA now,” commented a MP of the TNA hailing from the East.
"These three men are now taking the TNA to a path of destruction. If this is not stopped now, how can we face our people in the parliamentary election," the MP further lamented.
In the meantime, discussions are going on, on a person to person level among the TNA MPs who are now disappointed with the SMS leadership.
In regards to the strategy to be adapted in the forth coming parliamentary group meeting slated for the 4th of January, there is definitely a sense of urgency in their discussion that is centered on how to save the TNA from breaking up.
