Late Chandrasekaran’s cremation to take place tomorrow with full state honors
As a part of the state conducted funeral with full honors, President, Prime Minister, ministers and parliamentarians paid their last respect today, to the demised leader Minister P. Chandrasekeran at the Sri Lanka’s Parliamentary complex.
The body of the late Upcountry People’s Front Leader and Community Development and Social Inequity Eradication Minister P. Chandrasekeran was laid in the Parliamentary complex for Parliamentarians to pay their last respect.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid his last respect to the demised leader this morning and consoled the leader’s family members.
Also Prime Minister Ratnasri Wickremanayake, Parliament Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara, ministers and parliamentarians were seen paying their last respect when the coffin of the late Minister Chandrasekeran was kept this morning in the Parliamentary complex.
Chandrasekeran was elected as a member of parliament in 1994 and continued till his untimely passing away.
Minister Chandrasekeran was 52 years old at the time of his sudden demise and the hospital sources confirmed that a cardiac failure was the reason for his death.
Late Chandrasekeran entered active politics through the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) and later formed his own party - Up-Country People’s Front (UPF).
Minister Chandrasekeran had extended his party’s fullest support to the candidature of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the upcoming presidential election. He had recently publicly anounced that he is convinced and satisfied with the government’s development programs and would support Mahinda Rajapaksa in the forthcoming presidential election.
The coffin of the demised leader will be taken from the Parliament today afternoon, directly to his residence in Talawakelle to facilitate people to pay their last respect.
The last rites and the cremation, with full state honors will take place at 4 pm, on Monday 04 January, at the Urban Council grounds, at Talawakelle.
