Sri Lanka to Go for a Massive Condominium Project
Sri Lanka is to launch a massive 600,000 unit housing project this year fulfilling the housing need of the low income households, Presidential Secretariat announced.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing a group vocational and technical students from the institutes coming under the Ministry of Vocational Education and Training at Temple Trees yesterday (January 01) had said that government could not go for massive housing projects (other than Tsunami projects) during the past four years due to the war on terrorism.
President said that a mass scale condominium project which had been already drafted will solve the housing problem of the country and skilled Sri Lankan manpower will be used in the project.
President was saying that the Vocational Training Authority was established by him as the then Minister of Vocational Education and Training under the People’s Alliance Government as the demand for skilled workers in foreign countries were increasing.
“As the infrastructure development plays a pivotal role in the economical development of a country, the United Peoples Freedom Alliance government is in the process of providing infrastructure facilities to the higher and the tertiary education”, Vocational Education and Training Minister Piyasena Gamage told the gathering.
He also added that the Ministry’s effort is in training youths with professional skill, enabling them to assist the development process of the country as well as creating a trained workforce which fits for the overseas employment market.
Minister Gamage also said that the United People’s Freedom Alliance government led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa had defeated the terrorism and had created a free environment to determined their future as the government is always behind them providing opportunities and all whatever they need and guiding them.
