Lankan Tamil arrested for illegal staying

From Gopal Ethiraj, Chennai
Chennai, , 05 January (Asiantribune.com):

A Sri Lankan national was arrested in Cumbum on Sunday. He had gone to Sabarimala temple for worship. He was arrested when he was returning along with his friend P. Suresh, who had registered as a Sri Lankan refugee at the Mandapam camp in 1999, the police said.

Preliminary inquiry showed that Giri Sandhan is from Jaffna and was staying in India without valid documents. He produced documents signed by an Inspector of Police attached to the Nungambakkam police station in Chennai.

They were later found to be forged. Cases have been registered under section 471 (using forged document) of the IPC and sections 3 and 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946.
