Upcountry leader Chanthirasekeran body was cremated yesterday

Last_respect.jpgPeriyasamy Chanthirasekeran was cremated yesterday at the Urban Council grounds, located in Talawakelle.

Thousands participated in the cremation ceremony held at the Urban Council ground and bid farewell to the departed leader of the Upcountry People’s Front and the Minister Community Development and Social Inequity Eradication.

The coffin was taken in procession from the deceased Minister’s house at 3 PM to the Urban Council ground, the site of the funeral ceremony and the last rites and the funeral services were held there prior to the cremation.

Several ministers, deputy ministers, party representatives and Sri Lanka President’s representatives participated in the state funeral.

Thol Thirumavalavan , the Indian Member Parliament was also present at the cremation site to pay his last respect to deceased Tamil leader.

Earlier on Sunday, Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa was at the house of the late Minister and paid his last respect to his cabinet colleague and also consoled his family members.

The body of the Minister was consumed to fire at 6 PM yesterday.
