Northern Province Artistes to Perform at a Mega Cultural Show in Colombo

By Anjana Jayashan in Colombo
Colombo, 06 January, (Asiantribune.com):

The Northern province has completely changed and it has been transformed into a development hub under the directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa, said G.A. Chandrasiri, the Northern Province Governori.

The Northern Province Governor addressing the media at his Colombo office yesterday said that as the Tri-force Commander for the Jaffna peninsula he had witnessed how the province was before the humanitarian operation was begun by the United Peoples Freedom Alliance government.

“As soon as the LTTE was defeated, I was appointed as the Governor of the Northern Province and given me an opportunity to join in the rebuilding process of the province. Almost all the government offices are now functioning in the province. The services available in Colombo are now available for the northern citizens”, the Governor added.

Governor Chandrasiri said that the development process is backed by the Northern Spring (Uthuru Wasanthaya) project chairman and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa who visited every nook and corner of the province with his team.

While the national efforts are underway to create new opportunities to pay off the lost opportunities, the Northern Provincial council plans to reawaken the cultural identity of the province and to provide space for its expressions through the medium of art. Therefore, the provincial council is organizing a mega cultural show with the participation of nearly four hundred artistes of different talents, who are coming together for the first time to participate in such an event.

They have fixed the date for the show as January 20, 2010 and the Governor also said that the President Mahinda Rajapaksa will declare open the cultural show at the BMICH, in Colombo.
