Media Minister reveals hidden pact of TNA and the Opposition Leader

By Anjana Jayashan, Colombo
Colombo, 07 January (Asiantribune.com):

Tamil National Alliance’s decision to support the common opposition candidate General Sarath Fonseka was not a sudden development, and it has been there as an hidden pact, said Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana. Only now it is surfacing, he said.

Mr. Abeywardana addressing media persons yesterday said that a conspiracy is being hatched to rejuvenate the defeated LTTE by several international LTTE sympathizers, and the TNA’s move was a part of their agenda.

The Media Minister said the clues of this international conspiracy was revealed by the statements made by one Rudrakumar, who is considered as the unofficial leader of the LTTE terror outfit and another LTTE activist Wasantha Rajah who is in London.

The Minister said that when the TNA extends its support to General Fonseka, the United National Party-led common opposition had agreed five conditions for the TNA in return. As revealed to the media the common opposition had agreed to (a) release high ranking LTTE prisoners and send them to foreign countries, (b) decreasing the number of the State Intelligence Unit, (c) merging the North and East provinces, (d) Reducing the number of Police and Army officials in the North & East provinces (e) Removing the High Security Zones.

Minister further revealed that a hidden agreement should have been signed between the TNA and the UNP leader, and other allied parties might have agreed as they have no option.

He also questioned the People’s Liberation Front (JVP) which had opposed the merge of North and East several years ago, how suddenly they changed their policy.
