In the Lankan election din, the sprouting of pro-LTTE ideology goes unnoticed

Chennai, 09 January, (Asiantribune.com):

The presidential election Sri Lanka as it is hotting up, the dispersed pro-LTTE group is coming closer to voice their support to the main common opposition presidential candidate Gen. Sarat Fonseka.

For them gunning President Mahinda Rajapaksha in the forthcoming election is more important than who they support. Of the two main candidates, the General is considered ‘lesser evil’. In the process, the LTTE ideology is kept alive.

In Tamil Nadu Dravida Kazhagam (DK) President K Veeramani on Thursday appealed to the Lankan Tamils to vote for Gen. Sarath Fonseka in the forthcoming presidential elections, keeping in mind the fact that he was a ‘lesser evil’ when compared to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In the last presidential elections it was the boycott of elections by the Tamils that paved the way for Rajapaksa to become the president, the DK president pointed out.

Veeramani said that “Rajapaksa went on to commit atrocities against Tamils.” He advised them not to repeat the blunder.

He also pointed out that Fonseka had agreed to implement the 10- point charter of demands by the Tamils.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko and PMK founder S Ramadoss have a different story to say to wip up pro-LTTE feelings and casting aspersions on the present rulers of Sri Lanka

Condoling the death of Velupillai, father of LTTE chief Prabhakaran in Sri Lanka, both Vaiko and Ramadoss alleged that Velupillai died because of the torture he underwent at the camp where he was kept by the island army.

Vaiko, in a statement here, said Lankan government had lodged both Velupillai and his wife Parvathy Ammal in enquiry camps despite their old age. He said Velupillai would remain in the memories of the Tamils throughout the world.

Ramadoss charged that Velupillai was tortured by the Lankan army despite the fact that he was afflicted with paralysis and this had led to his death. The Rajapaksa government should release Parvathy Ammal, and Tamil youth from the camps, he added.
