Prabhakaran’s Father Velupillai to be cremated tomorrow at Valvetiturai
This morning, the remains of the Tiger leader Prabkaran’s father Veeraswamy Thiruvengadam Velupillai, who died at the National Hospital on Wednesday night, was taken overland to Velvettiturai, his native village, to perform last rites and cremation.
The TNA Member of Parliament and the Presidential contender M.K.Sivajilingham took charge of Velupillai’s remains and brought it to Valvetiturai this morning.
Asian Tribune learnt that the funeral rites are planned to be held on 10 January (Sunday) at 11 AM and cremation is to be held at the Urani cemetery.
The remains which was initially brought to Velupillai’s relatives house, at Poochividdan located at Valvetitura and later laid for general public to pay their last respect, at Theeruvil square, where earlier Memorials of 13 Tigers who committed suicide in 1987 October which led to the war with IPKF
Sivajilingam, a relation of Prabhakaran, had earlier requested President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga that the body be handed over to him to be taken to Velvettiturai for cremation.
Prabhakaran’s sister Vinodini Rajendran, who lives in Canada, has given the power of attorney to TNA parliamentarian Sivajilingam, to attend to the last rites of her father.
Deceased Velupillai is survived by his wife Parvathipillai, his eldest son Manoharan (Denmark) , eldest daughter Jegatheeswary Mathiyaparanam (presently at India) and Vinodhini Rajendram (Canada).
