The Maoyress of Batticaloa Sivageetha Prabhakaran, also known as Pathmini reported to have received Rs. 10 million to switch side to support Sarath Fonseka.

After receiving the demanded money, she along with her husband and brother-in-law, left yesterday (07 January) from Batticaloa to meet the UNP leader Ranil Wickremasingghe, to openly express her support to Sarath Fonseka.

Everyone in Batticaloa is aware of the deal the UNP negotiated with Sivageetha to get her to their side.

Sivageeth’a father Rajan Sathiyamoorthy, a bank employee was formerly an ardent UNP supporter. He was selected by Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman, when he was the overall commander of the LTTE to contest in the Batticaloa district, as a TNA candidate in the parliamentary election held on 02 April 2004.

Just before the polling, on 30 Marchn Sathiyamoorthy was shot dead by the LTTE’s pistol group.

Sivageetha and her mother were on the run and it was Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan the leader of the TMVP gave her security and kept her as their spokeswoman in Colombo.

Sivageetha who contested in the UPFA ticket on the recommendation of the TMVP and polled the highest preferential vote, was made the mayoress of Batticaloa.

Subsequently, she left the Eastern Provincial Council Chief Minister and the TMVP and took side with Karuna Amman and also joined the ruling SLFP to appease Karuna.

The political operative working for the UNP, who was claiming to have come from New York, contacted Prabakaran Sivageetha’s husband and his brother who is also a member of the Batticaloa Municipal council.

Prabhakaran and his brother demanded an immediate cash payment of Rs 10 million, plus Mayoress name in the UNP’s National list as a candidate in the forthcoming parliamentary general election plus the Airtel and Dialog agency for the Batticaloa district.

Will Sarath Fonseka win

Will Sarath Fonseka win because of this greedy woman?

What the opposition was

What the opposition was criticising about the government they are doing too. Only thing the UNP backed opposition got lots of money to do that. They bought CP De Silva and several MPs during Mrs. Bandarnaike government to topple it. Tamils are acting only as opportunists and how can they command respect from any other community. SF has no program by himself. All propelled is by the JVP and UNP. He is only a mouth piece only to defeat the government and SF to take revenge from Gotabaya. With all the propoganda and fould cry of lack of freedoms and democracy, how on earth opposition can make such a rumpus. The usuage of security vehicles for election reallys by SF does not make him different than others.
