Speakers.jpgSri Lankan Parliament Speaker W.J. M. Lokubandara’s visit to the Vaitheeshwaran Kovil here on Saturday met with protests from Pro-LTTE groups. A slipper was hurled at his car.

The Speaker arrived with his family by car from Chennai at 11.30 a.m. Over 27 protesters belonging to various parties, including the MDMK, Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the All India Students Federation, had gathered outside the temple.

They shouted anti Sri Lankan slogans and later made an attempt to get close to the Speaker to attack him.

The Speaker was escorted out of the Temple under tight security after offering prayers. He boarded the car, when the slipper was hurled.

Over 200 protestors belonging to the MDMK, PMK and VCK, who showed him black flags during his visit to Tirunallar at Karaikal, were arrested.
