Sampanthan in the footsteps of LTTE, decides to isolates the Tamils again

Colombo, 12 January, (Asiantribune.com):

Last Sunday Samapnthan by appealing for the support of India and the international community for the establishment of a ‘Tamil Homeland’ , has one more time began to mislead the Tamils towards another unknown period of a disastrous future.

“I publicly urge India to make arrangements for a political solution to our people. Within a few days time, I will be leaving with my friends to Delhi to talk about the political solutions to our people.”

So said R. Sampanthan, the Parliamentary group leader of the Tamil National Allaince and the President of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchchi.

The General Committee of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchchi met on Sunday in Jaffna in the Young Artiste Wedding Hall located in the surrounding of the Saddanathar Temple, Jaffna, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Party.

The General Secretary of the Party Mavai S. Senathirajah MP, Administrative Secretary S.M.Kulanayakam and TNA Parliamentarians Raseen Mohamed Imam, Kathirgamathamby Thurairetnasingham, Suresh Premachandran, Amirthanathan Adaikalanathan, Pathmini Sithamparanathan and many others participated in the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchchi.

While delivering his presidential address, Sampanthan further said:

I feel it is appropriate to make reference about the international participation in the affairs of Tamils. After the 1983 ethnic holocaust, the international community began to show interest and concern about us. At one stage, India showed a keen interest in our affairs.

Unfortunately, due to those bitter developments that occurred at one stage India withdrew its supports for us. There might have been ample of reasons for them to remain merely as onlookers at one stage or other. But as far as other countries were concerned, they earlier showed little or no interest at all. We cannot comment whether their contributions were satisfactory.

Many countries position was that they will assist and support us in case India was prepared to support us. Whenever we met the leaders of the foreign countries, as well as foreign dignitaries and diplomats, they used to insist that India should show concern and they will be behind India and always support us.

About the concerns of the international community, we have brought it to the notice of India on numerous occasions.

Now we clearly see a remarkable change in India’s approach. I observe that India has gradually begun to show a keen interest in the affairs of our people and I see a positive growing concern in their midst.

THE ITAK has also passed the following resolutions on issues related to Tamils:

* Call for the demolition of the High Security Zones in the Jaffna Peninsula;

* Families displaced due to HSZs should be resettled in their own places:

* The Tamil ethnic issue should be resolved on the principles based on Tamil traditional homeland;

* The Tamil Nation and self-rule should be adopted based on the right to self-determination;

* The international community should guarantee for the ensuarance of the democratic and human rights;

* The guarantee of the Tamil Nation and self-rule based on the right to self-determination;

* The resettlement of the IDPs has to be done based on the guidelines of the United Nations;

* The infrastructures of North and East which had been destroyed during the 30 year war should be rebuilt;

* Livelihoods should be found for the people of Vanni;

* Employment opportunities should be created;

* People should get back what they had lost and be allowed to live in peace;

It was decided in the meeting that the resolutions passed should be made known to Sri Lanka Government and the International Community.

Sarath Fonseka agreed to all

Sarath Fonseka agreed to all what Sambandan demanded because a person like him can betray anything even his own family for grabbing power.

Isn't the best way to counter

Isn't the best way to counter these problems and issues to, in the first instance, establish a power-sharing arrangement at the Centre? An arrangement that brings together all the communities in the country into the process of jointly governing the whole country.

All we have heard, and continue to hear from Sri Lankan leaders since Independence, including from the current President, is pure empty rhetoric, and nothing more.

Even today's international press questions the wisdom of postponing an overall solution and warns that any continued delay could result in the re-birth of militancy. Many people, including myself, have warned about the possibility of the re-birth of militancy if the ruling establishment in Sri Lanka fails to grasp the urgency of the situation.

It is the GoSL's job to convince all that joint governance will lead to greater unity in diversity. The ball is in the GoSL's court.
