Sampanthan, the leader of the Tamil National Alliance has anounced his support to the retired general.

Who is this General Sarath Fonseka- The Man who slaughtered the Tamils? R.Sampanthan says that he is going to be the Liberator Of the Tamils? The biggest joke of 2010? How much has Sampanthan received to be a turncoat?

Tamils Against Tyrany in therir statement anounced, "General Sarath Fonseka has been serving in the Sri Lankan Army for over 40 years, and today he is asking to be elected to lead the country. This pamphlet is an attempt to demonstrate to the Tamil people of this country the track record of the General and to ask yourselves if he is fit to govern this country and if he can be the liberator of the long suffering Tamil people. Here are some examples for your further education about the man, his past actions, and what he had stood for. “

The organization has further pointed out that Sarath Fonseka has clearly said, “We must deploy enough troops to provide security in these areas…There are still thousands of terrorists in the IDP camps. We must identify these terrorists and Destroy them.” The video of this meeting is still available on You Tube.

The Tamils Against Tyrany has appealed to the Tamil voters "To Vote wisely. Leave no room for regret."

The full text of the statement released by the “Tamils Against Tyranny” is given below:

R.Sambandan, the Tamil National Alliance leader has announced his support for General Sarath Fonseka at the presidential elections and called upon all Tamils to vote for him. Among the pledges that General Fonseka has given the TNA, are several issues which are important to the Tamil people, such as dismantling the high security zones in the north, the release of all Tamil detainees including LTTE suspects, the reduction of the military and presence in the north and east. The most important political pledge is the merger of the north and east.

General Sarath Fonseka has been serving in the Sri Lankan Army for over 40 years, and today he is asking to be elected to lead the country. This pamphlet is an attempt to demonstrate to the Tamil people of this country the track record of the General and to ask yourselves if he is fit to govern this country and if he can be the liberator of the long suffering Tamil people. Here are some examples for your further education about the man, his past actions, and what he had stood for.

# One such statement that brought Sarath Fonseka to the attention of the Sinhala public early on, was when he told the Canadian newspaper The National Post on the 23rd September 2008 that “I strongly believe that this country belongs to the Sinhalese, but there are minority communities and we treat them like our people… They can live in this country with us, but they must not try to under the pretext of being a minority, demand undue things”.

# A few months later, it was Fonseka himself who announced to the nation that Velupillai Prabhakaran had been killed along with all the leaders of the LTTE with not one left alive. That was his answer to minority community members who demanded ‘undue things’.

# Some months after this massacre and shortly before Fonseka resigned from the military to take to politics, on the 25th October 2009, he told a Sinhala-Buddhist audience at the Washington DC Buddhist Temple that “We must deploy enough troops to provide security in these areas…There are still thousands of terrorists in the IDP camps. We must identify these terrorists and Destroy them.” The video of this meeting is still available on You Tube.

# One of the reasons cited in his letter of resignation from the military was the government’s refusal to double the strength of the Army after the annihilation of the LTTE. He wanted the strength of the army forces to be increased to 500000. He was committed to the Sinhalization of the North and East and build cantonments around Tamil villages. He resisted every effort to get the Tamils living in the camps released.

# When he was in Jaffna he says that he is going to dismantle even the existing military infrastructure and security zones and release even the LTTE detainees. During the period of the Cease Fire Agreement from 2002, he, as commander of Jaffna, resisted all efforts to reduce the High Security Zones

# When the United States State Department prepared a dossier on alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka, they raised the issue of General Fonseka having said at a gathering in Ambalangoda, on July 18 2009, that the military had to overlook the usual rules of war and even massacre surrendering LTTE cadres who came out with white flags. But what many do not know of is, his unpleasant childhood experiences involving Tamil people. In an interview given to the Sunday Observer on the 20th July 2008, Fonseka related the story of his childhood. Both his parents had been school teachers and they had served in a school between Akkaraipattu and Ampara.

He recalled that his family lived in constant fear of attacks from Tamil people living in such areas. He said “I can still remember how the villagers used to run to a rocky cliff when Tamils attack our village. We spend two or three days there until the situation comes back to normal.” This experience with Tamil mobs had obviously tainted his perception of Tamils.

# K.T.Rajasingham, the well known journalist from Jaffna and the Editor of Asian has related in the Asian Tribune on 10/1/10 the story of the Velvettiturai massacre of 9 May 1985 where then Major Sarath Fonseka ordered the killing of over 75 Tamil youth in and around Velvettiturai, in retaliation for the killing of Major Sirimal Mendis by the LTTE. In one of those incidents on that fateful day, twenty five youth had been herded into the community centre in Polikandy, VVT and killed in an explosion. Rajasingam had been present in the vicinity on that day. He had narrowly escaped being rounded up himself.

# Vote wisely. Leave no room for regret.
