Vote for Mahinda – SPUR Appeals
The Melbourne based Society for Peace and Human Rights in Sri Lanka (SPUR) has appealed to the Sri Lankans to vote for President Rajapaksa based on his Development Centric Vision and Record against LTTE Terrorism.
In a statement it has said that the SPUR has carefully considered the election manifestos of President Rajapaksa as well as that of the (retired) General Fonseka and decided to wholeheartedly embrace President Rajapaksa’s development centric, unitary state vision for Sri Lanka.
“Hence we urge all eligible citizens to vote for President Rajapaksa at the January 26 Presidential election”, the SPUR has appealed.
The statement further said:
“SPUR will be tirelessly working for the re-election of President Rajapaksa due to a plethora of reasons including his positive record over the last four plus years culminating in the defeat of LTTE terrorism, and his bold development centric Vision for the Nation securing prosperity for all its citizens sans ethnicity, caste, demography or religion.
“SPUR strongly rejects (retired) General Fonseka’s divisive manifesto full of glib and economically irresponsible statements. We also denounce his alliance with communal minded parties such as the TNA committed to empathising with the LTTE and promoting the separatist agenda.
No one should believe that the concept of Eelam and the threat to Sri Lanka’s sovereignty arising from it is either history, or non-existent. As the premier organization that provided the leadership to the anti-LTTE Diaspora community around the world for the last 17 years, we say with responsibility that Eelam conspirators overseas in collusion with organizations such as the TNA and NGO’s (such as the NPC) are continuing to plan and secretly scheme to establish their monoculture fascist and racist Tamil utopia,
“ Eelam by first merging the Northern and the Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka and subsequently ethnically cleansing these lands of the Sinhalese and the democratic Tamils and Muslim communities. SPUR requests all Sri Lankan voters to unite, support and vote for President Rajapaksa to secure another 6 year period that will:
(1) Consolidate the hard won peace against LTTE terrorism
(2) Unite the country devoid of racial tensions centred on a dignified, common vision
(3) Develop the country in an environment that is free of corruption, nepotism and ethnic division
(4) Protect and sustain the natural environment and
(5) Nurture the cultural heritage, support the pre-eminent position given to Buddhism in the constitution and ensure the freedom of worship for followers of all religions.
“We also request all Sri Lankan’s to base their decision on facts and desist being seduced by unsubstantiated innuendo and allegations being spread about corruption in Sri Lanka. We strongly believe this to be a convenient distraction promoted by an opposition devoid of any facts or tangible evidence.
“We urge every Sri Lankan to familiarise themselves with the appended document summarising President Rajapaksa’s re-election manifesto and ‘Future Vision’ for Sri Lanka, ‘Beyond the Mahinda Chinthanaya, A Bright Future.
Let us work to make this Vision a reality, defeat the anti-nationalistic separatist agenda of the TNA, Ganeshan, Hakeem, Ranil, Mangala, JVP alliance and hold President Rajapaksa accountable for the delivery of his Vision for our motherland, Sri Lanka.”
