Opposition’s Effort to “Buy MP” Plan Fails
National Freedom Front MP Mohammad Muzamil revealed at a press briefing on 15 January that the Opposition tried to bribe him with Rs.30 million offer to support Genera Sarath Fonseka at the presidential election.
Parliamentarian Mohammad Muzamil addressing the media said that a UNP MP brought the suggestion a few days ago by offering money and several foreign tours if he agrees to support the Opposition’s common candidate.
“As we wanted to reveal the country how the Opposition buying MPs, we decided to follow them and continued the discussion with them as how to do the crossover. Accordingly, a UNP MP had booked me a room at a hotel in Colombo and I went there last night around 11.00pm. I was given some money as an advance this morning (January 15) and they have planned to announce my crossover to the Opposition today at the press briefing ” the MP told the media.
He also said that he has both audio and video taped of whole sordid episode.
National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawnsa addressing the media condemned it as he United National Party’s so called political culture and revealed that the audio and video evidences will reveal their dirty plans.
MP Weerawansa also said that the advanced money which the Parliamentarian Muzamil received from the Opposition will be used for the election campaign.
“Lucrative financial deals are very common for the UNP and they always played with the democracy and franchise of the general public. “Evidence of attempts by the opposition to “buy” support will be released to the media soon”, Parliamentarian Weerawansa added.
