Avoiding project and marketing failures

By Quintus Perera – Asian Tribune
Colombo, 18 January, (Asiantribune.com):

There is growing interest to start new ventures particularly because the war is over and elections to be completed and also to launch new products and expanding and existing businesses. However several new ventures and new projects launched in Sri Lanka in the past have failed despite evaluations by eminent persons.

The reasons for such failures area: mislaid trust on foreign partners, insufficient due diligence, intricacies in the regulatory framework & lack of understanding of their complications. From a marketing management point of view a lesson learnt from Global Excellent Companies is that all of them, without exception are brilliant on the basics. The same goes for Sri Lankan firms too.

Companies that ignore the importance of customer insights - and based upon them, Market Segmentation and Product Positioning - do so at their own peril.

Targeting these critical issues a half a day public seminar will be organized by the Sri Lanka Ceramics Council (affiliated to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce), on the above theme.

Presentations will be made by the following: Project Evaluation & Screening - Multi-Sectoral Examples of Real Life Local Experiences by Ranel Wijesinha , Chartered Accountant & International Management Consultant; Avoiding Failures in Marketing – “Being brilliant on the basics”, by Dr. Uditha Liyanage, Chartered Marketer & Director, Postgraduate Institute of Management.

The Seminar aims to provide insight for Directors, CEO’s, Strategic Planning professional, Risk Managers, Accountants, Business development and Banking professionals as well as Investment Advisors, Venture Capital Evaluators and Financial Analysts to become better equipped to effectively & comprehensively evaluate projects & proposals, obtain insight into due diligence on promoters, evaluate new markets, understand the impact of regulations and possible amendments to regulations and to obtain insights into important issues in marketing strategy and pitfalls to avoid.
