President Pays Last Respect To The Political Victim In Anamaduwa
President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid his last respects yesterday to the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) supporter; Anura Saman Kumara at his house at Thonigala in Anamaduwa on 18 January, who was killed by an armed group in Madurankuliya.
Saman Kumara who went to Madurankuliya town last Saturday to witness the massive crowd gathered at the UPFA rally in Anamaduwa had been killed by a bullet of unscrupulous persons who carry vicious political ambitions.
President Rajapaksa who went to Saman Kumara’s residence has expressed his condolences to his family members and joined with them to share their grief. The President has also ordered for an impartial inquiry into the incident and has called on the law enforcement authorities to immediately bring the perpetrators to book.
Puttalam district Parliamentarian and Deputy Speaker Priyankara Jayarathne told the Asian Tribune that Saman Kumara had arrived in Madurankuliya with other hundreds of UPFA activists and supporters in a bus and from there they were to reach the stadium on foot. “When they were getting ready for their march, the political hooligans had started firing leaving a large blemish on the political arena of this country”, he said.
MP Jayarathne added that the opposition was attempting to create a fear syndrome and prevent large crowds participating in the UPFA public meetings which are organized to ensure the victory of the President Mahinda Rajapaksha at the presidential elections.
The United Peoples Freedom Alliance Government has emphasized that the incident was a serious blow to democracy of the country and it also queries whether this is the democracy of the Opposition?
Arrangements have been made for his funeral to take place at Thonigala in Madurankuliya on Wednesday, January 20.
