President Leads for a Significant Victory- Minister Alahapperuma
Sri Lanka’s Presidential Election 2010 results which so far released indicate that the present incumbent of the country Mahinda Rajapaksha will win the elections easily. Results of 116 electorates so far have been released and 96 electorates have been won by President Mahinda Rajapksha.
19 out of 21 postal voting results also went for Rajapaksha while Fonseka secured only Jaffna and Batticaloa district postal votes.
The results of more than three quarter of electorates have been released and the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) representative Mahinda Rajapaksa has secured 4,219,226 votes so far marking a comfortable lead over his closest rival General Sarath Fonseka. The Opposition’s common candidate Fonseka so far had received only 2, 796, 816 votes.
Their percentages show as the 58.98 for the Freedom Alliance candidate and 39.10 per cent for General Fonseka. Transport Minister Dulles Alahapperuma who was a giant figure of Freedom Alliance publicity campaign speaking to the Asian Tribune said that President Mahinda Rajapksha is driving for a significant victory. He also said that all avenues are now open for a unified country and a bright future for its citizens.
