Rajapaksha Re-elected as the President of Sri Lanka
Proving again he took the right decision at the right time to go for the presidential election sparing two years to be in office, as he boldly decided to attack and defeat the LTTE, President Mahinda Rajaksha wins the presidential election 2010 with a significant voter turnout.
Political critics say this significant victory will turn a new leaf in the annals of the political history in the country for a bright future as a respectable unified country.
Little while ago, the Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake announced that the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) candidate Mahinda Rajapaksha was elected as the president of this country for another six years. He had been voted with 6,015,934 votes out of 10, 495,451 polled votes on January 26. His voting percentage stood as 57.88%.
His runner up opposition’s common candidate Major General (retired) Sarath Fonseka had been voted with 4,173,185 and its percentage stood as 40.15%. The Commissioner of Elections said that he would also officially announce that the President Mahinda Rajapaksha’s re-election as the President of this country.
14,088,500 citizens were qualified to cast their votes in this election and 10, 495, 451 persons had cast their votes at around 12,400 islandwide polling centers. According the data of Elections Secretariat 101838 voter had been rejected.
