Murder of Sunday Leader Editor Wickramatunge – light at the end of the tunnel found
A flicker of hope has suddenly emerged as the police has started moving in the right direction in unraveling the mystery behind the assassination of Lasanth Wickramatunge, Editor of The Sunday Leader, who was shot down and murdered cold-bloodedly.
Lasantha was on his way to the office in the morning of January 8, 2009 when he was shot by unknown gunmen near the Malagalage Junior School in Attidiya. He was admitted to hospitals and finally succumbed to his gunshot injuries. For an year, the murder mystery remained unsolved.
In the meantime Asian Tribune has learnt that Brigadier Duminda Keppitiwalana has been arrested with regard to a murder on Friday night at his home in Panundura.
The Brigadier was said to be the blue-eyed boy of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka. He is the commandant of the combat training school in Ampara .
It is learnt that he has been taken for questioning.
