A Dramatic Turn In UP Politics – Jaya Prada And Amar Singh Expelled From Samajwadi Party
A dramatic turn in the Uuttar Pradesh politics, as Samajwadi Party President and former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav expelled his once close confident Amar Singh and his strongest supporter and actor turned politician Ms Jaya Prada MP from the primary member ship of the party.
The General Secretary of the party, Mr Mohan Singh, who succeeded Amar, announced the expulsion decision this morning at Lucknow.
"The hasty decision was taken by Mulayam Singh, which will affect the party's prospect in the future", a close aid of Jaya Prada said.
Ms Jaya Prada on Sunday came out in support of Amar Singh and openly asked Mulayam Singh through press to intervene and stop personal attacks on the former general secretary (Amar Singh) from senior leaders.
Flanked by three MLAs Madan Chauhan, Ashok Chandel and Sarvesh Kumar Singh and MLC Sandeep Aggarwal, Jaya Prada spoke in favour of Singh and said he had worked selflessly for the Party and had turned it into a national party from a regional outfit. She also made it clear that Singh would not resign from Rajya Sabha, and added, during last year's Lok Sabha election, only Amar came to her defence when a personal attack was mounted against her.
"I am a too small leader in the party to speak with Mulayam Singh Yadav directly on this matter. Though I urge him through press to intervene and stop attacks on Amar by other leaders in the party", she replied to a question.
At one point, Jaya Prada was seen clearly agitated when a personal question was asked with regard to her relationship with Amar. "Even if I tie rakhi to Amar, people will still talk", she said, adding that good men and women were not joining politics due to slander. My beauty is a gift of god and so is my talent, I am a strong woman.”
Four Samajwadi Party MLAs were also expelled from the party along with Jaya Prada and Amar, Mohan Singh said and added, "Party Image is suffering due to Amar Singh and Jaya Parda.
After hearing the party’s decision, Amar Sing met the press along with Jaya Prada and said, "Thankful to Mulayam for freeing me". I got freedom from the Party. I felt suffocated by politics of Samawadi Party and its leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar added.
Even though, Amar and Jaya were expelled from the party, they won't loose their MP post under anti-defection law of the country. It was reported that they will continue as the members of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha respectively as un-attached members.
