Intelligence personnel make progress digging into ‘President Assassination Plot’ plan
The intelligence unit of the Army, Navy, Air force as well as the State Intelligence Service under Retired General Chula Senivaratne are investigating all aspects of the conspiracy to topple the duly elected Sri Lanka Government and also the plot to assassinate President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family members on 27th evening on his way back from the Election Commissioners office to Temple Tree, the official residence of Sri Lanka President.
Along with the security services intelligence units, Police Criminal Investigation Department is also investigating into the conspiracy and assassination bid on Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family members.
Asian Tribune learnt that more information has surfaced on the bid to assassinate the President during the election.
Police sources said that army deserters arrested from the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo have divulged a lot of information regarding these plans.
Accordingly, it is further getting established that there were plans definitely to assassinate the President and his family members.
It has also come to the fore that a group of media personnel had remained within the hotel during the night. Their intention was to bring a live telecast from opposite the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel using the Rupavahini Corporation vehicle on the ordeal including the President’s assassination, if Sarath Fonseka triumphed at the polls.
Regarding all these aspects, Asian Tribune learnt that two Army officials are being interrogated of their participation in the alleged conspiracy.
A large group, including Sarath Fonseka, had taken lodging at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo from the night of the polling day.
Among them were army deserters and retired military personnel. Top leaders of the opposition and parliamentarians frequented the hotel during that period.
A senior police officer speaking to Asian Tribune said that they have recorded the statement of the general manager of the Cinnamon Lakeside hotel who failed to give details of the hotel rooms occupied by Sarath Fonseka’s people who occupied the hotel rooms on 26th January.
Investigations also revealed that the person who booked 70 rooms in the hotel in Colombo had not given the correct name and address to hotel owners.
The Police spokesman told Asian Tribune that the General Manager failed to give details of the person who made the reservation of the rooms, who and who occupied which and which rooms and who paid room rents. Also he failed to answer questions about deleting the data of the hotels security camera.
Investigations also revealed that the person who booked 70 rooms in a hotel in Colombo had not given the correct name and address to hotel owners.
He further said that the hotel security chief is a retired army officer and he too has failed to respond to questions regarding why cables of the hotels security cameras were disconnected.
