“This Victory is Yours. I know you didn't do this just to win an election. And I know you didn't do it for me.”
President Mahinda Rajapaksa said this in his personal letter sent on the eve of 62nd Sri Lankan Independence Day to all friends who worked and voted for his overwhelming victory in the recent presidential elections.
In this letter sent to the Editor, Asian Tribune, and his team of scribes as well as to the readers of web daily, Mahinda Rajapaksa said: “We defeated terrorism and separatism, which at one time was thought and told by the whole world to be impossible.”
He also added: “Now we want to lead our children and our nation to a brighter future as stakeholders of a truly free motherland.”
Thanking all those who believed in him and voted to re-elect him as their President, he said “I want to thank you for your support. I also want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign. We couldn't have done it without you.”
Reminding what he had promised during his campaign, Rajapaksa said “I will implement "Mahinda Chintana - Vision for the Future," so that together we can continue to bring a "Brighter Future" for you, your family and our country.”
Ending his letter, the President said: “Let us all unite to make Sri Lanka, the emerging "Wonder of Asia"
