Tourism Minister on the importance of promoting the tourism image of the country

By Anjana Jayashan in Colombo
Colombo, 04 January, (Asiantribune.com):

The Minister of Tourism Achala Jagoda summoned the hotel management of the Cinnamon Lake (former Trans Asia) hotel to the Tourism Ministry and said to have discussed over the alleged incident of booking 70 rooms by the so called common opposition presidential candidate on January 26 and other reported incidents have subsequently taken place in the hotel.

The Minister had emphasized to the hotel management that if some untoward incidents would have taken place as intelligent services reported it could have been the end of the country’s tourism.

He had explained to them the danger which could have been on the tourism industry.
“Sri Lanka just began to enjoy the freedom by defeating three decades long terrorism and we have to be very careful about the country.

“You should have informed the defense authorities of such a move as people in business, as well as responsible citizens of the country. Stability of the country and the country’s economy should always be respected by everyone”, the Minister told the hotel management, the release issued by the Tourism Ministry said.

Minister Jagoda had also emphasized that Sri Lanka is now in a turning point as the western countries had begun to consider Sri Lanka as one of the best tourist destinations of the world and we all have to develop that positive image and not party to any activities that might tarnish the image of the country.
