Sri Lanka: Ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance to Introduce New Faces at the General Election

By Anjana Jayashan in Colombo
Colombo, 06 February, (Asiantribune.com):

The political parties which contested in the presidential elections under the swan symbol have lost their ways and make some false fabricated tales to put the government in trouble.

“The danger of their activities is the image they give to the international community is not good for the country”, said by Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa at the weekly meeting at the Government Information Department to brief the Cabinet decisions.

He emphasized that the election to elect a president was over now and President Mahinda Rajapaksha is the President of this country. “Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe on the electiondDay itself accepted that the elections were held peacefully and he also thanked the general public for assisting to have a free and fair election.

He also said that People’s Liberation Front (JVP)’s allegations is only to safeguard them from the defeat and their rejection by their people. “As a whole, it is the Opposition supporters who had threatened our supporters and members”, the Mass Media Minister said.

Minister Yapa speaking over the forthcoming general elections said that Sri Lanka Freedom Party has kept its doors open for its allied parties and they have no any barrier to go for the elections as the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

He also added that the candidates from the Sri Lankan Freedom Party are being selected these days and the Party is in a move to bring several new faces in this election too.

Lion and Elephant, two

Lion and Elephant, two animals world place at high prestige of animal kingdom. Kings of Asia with respect, place Elephants with Royalty addressing, "Mangal Ethas." Veneration of this noble animal is the reason the 'Casket of Buddha's Relics" placed with Highest Respect, Dignity and care, dressed in pagents' costume. Gatherings of any procession well display, the graceful march of noble tuskers proceeding forward, meditatively keeping the long trunk in its usual position.

History of Buddhism gracefully places Noble Elephant to Life of Buddha long before Birth of Buddha:-
Noble Queen Mahamaya of Rajadhiraja Suddhodhana of Kimbulwath Pura of Maha Bharatha dreams, a young White Elephant entering the womb from the right side of Noble Queen. Next morning, King Suddhodhana summoned four veteran sooth sayers for their Interpretations. Unanimously all confirmed the Dream: a Blessing of the Birth of a Royal Prince who would be the Noble king of Kapila Wasthu Pura and indeed Greatest King of Kings in Great Maha Bharatha. If this does not happens the infant Prince would destined to be the Buddha!

This is how "Mangala Etha" entered the Royalty. Then Wealth of Kings were also measured by the number of Elephants belong to Castles of Royal Palaces. In Life of Buddha, Royal Elephant plays a Significant role.

Due to a dispute over, a jug being misused over a water container by a monk using a toilet at a Monastery; Buddha decided to leave to a forest named "Parileya Wanaya" inhabited with wild animals. It was here, "Parileya Etha" with veneration attended to all needs of Buddha, mainly offering fresh fruits and vegetables as meals, taking every care from any wild beast approaching Buddha. Once an intoxicated wild Elephant named Nalagiri approached Buddha facing danger. However, Performing Loving Kindness over a drunk wild elephant, Buddha serenely surrendered this wild beast thus kneeling in the presence of Buddha as a disciplined innocent creature. In the Life of Buddha to the day of His Parinibbana (Passing away) Elephant indeed performed many an interesting tasks, other than "two extreme incidents I referred here."

“Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe accepted the elections were held peacefully and thanked general public for assisting to have a free and fair election." A Politician of high calibre once a Prime Minister of the Country who seems to ignore the valuable votes of the Masses. Striking contrast displaying 'mirror image' happens to be that of a humble one coming from a Southern Village, who sees Paddy Field as a "Mother who embraces the infant; breast-feeding like our vast Farm Land that offer our Staple Diet." People feel, one rejects the masses while the other embraces same. Especially young thinks the white attired thick moustached nobility is their relative and address him, MAMA. A handy farmer at Paddy Field being addressed as "Maharaja." Distancing the title, he humbly says, "I am not your Maharaja, but only the Custodian."

Colombo residents, usually supporters of UNP as my family and self. However, ones like us faded away from the Party, solely due to the attitude of its leader and ones behind him. His intention seems Power, while the other Leader kneels down worshiping 'Motherland'. Mr. Wickremasinghe's impression is highly damaging and unacceptable to people who Love the Country.

Notable disappearance of "Mangal Etha" was striking and colour Green - "Jathiye Piya" Hon. D.S. Senanayake, depicted "Green Forestry or Plantations" completely faded. Foolishly replacing, white bird not even one foot tall and unable walk properly. How pathetic!

Our commander in chief Mr. Ranil Wicramsinghe, considering the Pulls of Masses by paying attention to poor villagers who live just scraping day's meals in their tiny huts, may line up at next elections, casting their ballots, placing 'green elephant' marked paper into ballot boxes. We the UNPers can perform the same ritual as the Victory of incumbent President's Great Victory collectively offering "Kiribatha, Kaun Kokis, Athirasa giving no Bitter taste to tongues! This being so WE would gladly place OUR valuable vote in favour of UNP!

One important observation. We believe, only member of the Party with dignity maintains his prestige Mr. Rukman Senanayake who keeps to himself. He admires HE Mahinda Rajapakse and respect as a Great Leader. However, he would never join SLFP by betraying the Party originally formed by his grand father and Nephew Hon. Dudley S. Senanayake the five times Prime Minster, a world record.

Dear Mr. Alfred

Dear Mr. Alfred Seneviratne,

I was wondering why the UNPers were silent all this time. Your analysis comes with a simple but good comparison. RW tried his best to have the last laugh and he did it smartly by getting the party to support the swan. We knew from the very begining that he (RW) would kill two birds with one stone; To remain as the leader of UNP and dumping JVP. Now nobody in the UNP can point a finger at him for losing at 2010 Presidential Election. The next move by him to recreate or reactivate UNF is a below the belt hit on the JVP, which will have to go alone at next parliamentary election.

The plot is not bad for a movie by "21st Century Fox".
