TMVP decision on election symbol, after meeting UPFA leadership
The Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal which met yesterday at the Batticaloa official residence of the Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chanthirakanthan alias Pillaiyan, has decided to take a final decision in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections, after meeting Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa, Senior Advisor to the President and other leaders of the ruling United People Freedom Alliance.
In Saturday's meeting, according to Chief Minister’s spokesman Azad Moulana, 13 Politburo members, 90 Executive committee members of the TMVP and about 300 invitees from the East participated in the meeting.
The spokesman said that the majority of the participants urged that TMVP should contest in its Boat symbol in the Batticaloa district and in the Betel symbol of the UPFA in the Trincomalee and Ampara districts.
He said it has been decided that final decision will be taken only after having talks with the UPFA leadership.
