A high ranking official of Pakistan army was killed and other officers injured in an ambush on rescue team by militants in the tribal region of northwest Pakistan on Wednesday.

According to sources Brigadier Hussain was killed, while Major Zia and Lt Ansar were seriously injured when they came under attack from militants in Tirah Valley.

The officers were part of a rescue party on a mission to recover the bodies of the pilot and a co-pilot of a Cobra helicopter which crashed in Tirah Valley earlier.

A cobra helicopter of the Pakistan Army crashed in Tirah valley of Khyber on Wednesday, killing the pilot and his assistant, officials said.

An army official Col. Nadeem said the helicopter met the unfortunate accident at Nangrosa locality due to bad weather.

He said that the helicopter was on routine surveillance of the area. He refuted the impression that the crashed helicopter was taking part in any military operation or targeted by militants.

On the other hand some local officials claimed that the helicopter was crashed while in action against militants in Tirah Valley.
