Resettlement Process in the North to Restarts after Elections
Resettlement process which restarted on February 8th and twice a week the resettlement process is taking place from now onwards, Northern Province Governor (retired) Major General G.A.Chandrasiri said.
The process has been temporarily halted earlier to facilitate citizens to cast their votes at the presidential elections and several buildings were also made use for the purposes.
The Northern Province Governor said that a group of one thousand internally displaced persons will be resettled today (February 11) at Ganeshapuram, Kattayamalei, Muththuwinayagapuram, Mankulam east, Pannikulam and Indupuram villages.
Governor Chandrasiri said that they are to be provided with all requirements till they are settled in their original places.
The package includes cash, roofing sheets, packs of cement, garden tool kit or a fishing tool kit, seeds for farmers and many other things.
The Governor also said the Forces personnel who are in those places are assisting the IDPs to build their houses, transporting their needs and help them in their paddy fields works.
The governor Chandrasiri further added that everything has been arranged for resettlement in three GS divisions in Paranthan and in Kilinochchi.
Marithiyampaththu GS division at Mulliyaweli in Mullaithivu is also ready to accept the civilians as mines have been cleared and necessary infrastructure arrangements have been made.
The Governor also said that the resettlement in the area will take place on February 15 and over 3000 will be resettled there with the assistance of the Northern Spring Task Force Chairman Basil Rajapaksa.
