Gen Fonseka’s Arrest not a Political Move”, President says to Opposition Leader

By Anjana Jayashan in Colombo
Colombo, 13 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Mahinda_Ranil.jpgThe Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe met President Mahinda Rajapaksha at the Temple Trees yesterday (February 12).

The Opposition Leader had mainly discussed over the arrest of defeated Presidential candidate from the Opposition retired Major General Sarath Fonseka. President Rajapaksha had emphasized that the Opposition Leader that the arrest of the General Fonseka was not any means political decision, but it had been taken place to safeguard the law and order of the country. President had reiterated that it was an issue of “Army Discipline”.

At the discussion, the President had also said that General Fonseka had been provided all his needs and nothing to worry about his requirements. He has further briefed the Opposition Leader that the investigations over the allegations against General Fonseka will be accelerated. “He has every opportunity to free from the allegations within the legal frame, unless he had done any offence”, the President had added.

“If General Fonseka wishes to challenge his arrest in the courts he is allowed to go to the Supreme Courts”, President told the Opposition Leader, the statement issued by the Presidential Secretariat said.

To the request by Wickremesinghe to bring meals by someone else instead of his wife Anoma Fonseka, the President had said that such a decision should be taken by the Army Commander and not him (president).

Anyway, the President had told the Opposition Leader that his wife (Shiranthi Rajapaksha) came to visit me twice a day when I was imprisoned by then government in the eightees.” She was pregnant at that time. I saw in the media that General Fonseka’s wife was asking to visit his husband and if she wishes she can continue”, the President had said.

Now it has become crystal

Now it has become crystal clear what Sarath fonseka’s motives were to contest in the presidential election against President Mahinda Rajapaksha. What he really wanted was to take revenge from the president and his family and others who were supporting him in many ways to ensure president’s victory. From his mean behavior, all what many had earlier predicted has come true now. The people of Sri Lanka did not, do not and will not allow conspirators both internal and external to topple the government and convert Sri Lanka back to a graveyard as they wish. The opposite parties especially UNP and JVP should clearly realize that the majority of people has already rejected both and now they should accept their defeat and bow down to people’s decision which was clearly given at the last election without making useless and consciousless efforts to belittle it. Further, it should be mentioned that now the international media especially BBC has begun its callous act of tarnishing the image of Sri Lanka again. Now BBC is used to carrying Fonseka in the same way as it used to carry Prabakaran when he was alive. It is to this, we are now forced to react as a nation not to stage protests to save or safeguard a traitor like Fonseka who has already expressed his wishes to international media (BBC) that he was prepared to lick imperialists’ shoes.

Clearly, Prez Rajapakse not

Clearly, Prez Rajapakse not only dyes his hair, but also his mustache. Lucky guy. He still has hair on his head that can be dyed. I am losing all my hair.

I feel sorry for you - Editor

Actually, I like the more
