Synod of CSI Election results Stayed

Sathyalaya Ramakrishnan Reporting from Chennai
Chennai, 15 February, (Asiantribune.com):

The City Civil Court in Chennai stayed the operation of result of election held in Tamil Nadu, for the office bearers of Synod of Church of South India, the Supreme Governing Body of CSI. The governing body controls over the church councils of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh Kerala and Jafna in Sri Lanka.

The elections for the posts of Moderator, Dy.Moderator, General Secretary and Treasurer of Synod of CSI was held at Courtallam in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu on 14, January, 2010.

Prior to the election a city civil court in Karnataka had restrained Rev.Vasantha Kumar from attending the 32nd Session of the Synod of CSI. But a city Civil court in Chennai had permitted him to attend the Session and restrained the Synod from declaring the results of the election.

However in gross violation of the above court orders and further the Reference Committee of the Synod after deliberation permitted him to attend the session without voting rights, he contested and was elected as the moderator. There were gross violations of election process and malpractices and also proxies were allowed to vote against the constitution of CSI.

With this one Albert Jeyaraj, member of the Synod filed a suit through his counsel R Manimuthu, for declaring the election as null and void .

The XI Assistant City Civil Court Judge, Mr Chinnasamy admitted the petition and granted interim injunction and the judge further stayed the resolutions and decisions taken subsequent to the election till 25, February.

In his petition, Albert Jayaraj submitted that the members selected by bogus voters were facing criminal cases for malpractices on Tsunami Relief Fund. The Judge directed the respondents to replay on or before 25.
