Haiti Relief – Learn From Sri Lanka
Just 90 minutes away from the world's most powerful nation USA, one of the poorest countries in the world, devastated by a natural calamity is left to suffer for the last one month.
A quarter million already dead, many more missing and tens of thousands homeless and sick living under most unhyginic conditions without sufficient food or water, the so called developed nations, watch dogs of human rights that pounce on the countries that their masters dont like politically are keeping quiet. Rehabilitation is at zero level. Food is thrown at poor victims as if they are animals.
In the midst of these chaotic situation human vultures in the form of missionaries invaded Haiti to kidnap helpless children probably to be used in their organ harvesting program.Even though they got caught there is every possibility that they will get away as the judges are their masters.
Sri Lanka faced such disasters in 2004 in the form of a tsunami and later in mid 2009 when nearly 300,000 persons were rescued from the clutches of murderous terrorist LTTE.
When tsunami struck the coastal belt of Sri Lanka, present President Mahinda Rajapaksa who was then the Prime Minister, intervened and planned the rehabilitation work. This was well executed. There was massive support from the unaffected locals, foreign countries and international organizations like ICRC.
Sri Lanka also saw the influx of some foreign NGOs that misused the funds given by their donors. They choose to stay in five star hotels and enjoy life in the sandy beaches.
Sri Lankan authorities with the help of many governments and agencies built the houses for the victims and until such time permanent houses were built temporary accommodation was provided in good tents and properly built huts with cement floors and toilets.Food supplies, drinking water, medicine etc reached the tsunami victims without any hassle. There was no out break of any communicable diseases
Last year with the defeat and elimination of the terrorist outfit called LTTE Sri Lanka had to handle a sudden influx of nearly 300,000 refugees, who were held as a human shield by this terrorist organization.
This was a serious and complex situation that Sri Lanka had to face. Sri Lanka Army kept their guns aside and mustered all its resources to attend to these refugees who were found to be malnourished, sick and disabled etc. The worst category was the hardcore terrorists but they behaved well and did not cause any problems. The Army while providing them with all facilities planned the rehabilitation work in a methodical manner. Refugee camps were set up with all facilities like hospitals, banks, sales outlets, post offices etc and there was no danger of any diseases. But sad to say that foreign news reporters who were agents of the terrorists always wanted show the international community that these camps were prison camps worse than Gitmo. But the Indian MPs who came over saw the actual situation. Now the resettlement is taking place along with the clearing of land mines planted by the terrorists.
Coming back to the plight of the suffering Haitians it is obvious that USA and France failed in their obligations to help Haitians. Both USA and France were colonial masters of Haiti that sapped the country's resources . Even now Haiti is an unofficial occupied colony of USA and it is the duty of USA to spend at least 1% of what they spend in Afganistan and Iraq on Haiti.USA is simply incapable of doing any such rehabilitation work. Katrina victims in USA is the best example. Over 100'000 still languish without proper accommodation.
If the international community is serious in rehabilitating Haiti victims Sri Lanka is the best place where expertise is available. In this regard I would like to recommend Rishard Badurdeen, the energetic Member of Parliament who himself is a former refugee to handle this matter. He took great pains to rehabilitate the refugees in North and East. He silenced all the foreign critics who went to town with adverse reports about the refugee situation in Sri Lanka. At the moment there are about 1000 Sri Lankan troops in Haiti on a peace keeping mission.
Haiti needs and organised and genuine attempt to bring relief to its suffering masses. USA cannot do much as they are more interested in killing missions. Haiti’s neighbor Cuba has already established two hospitals in Haiti but foreign media fails to even mention this.
