Opinion Poll: Vote if Fonseka should be tried or set free
The two architects who fought the bitter war against terrorism and were responsible for the government’s victory over the Tamil Tigers--Gen. Fonseka and Mahinda Rajapksa—were pitted against each other in the recent presidential elections that saw the former loosing.
President Rajapaksa won comfortably -- capturing 57% of the vote, while Sarath Fonseka polling 40%. In other words, Gen. Fonseka was defeated by incumbent Mahinda Rajapaksa by 1.8 million votes to four million.
Subsequently, Gen Fonseka, who was arrested for various charges, the initial allegations brought by the Sri Lanka Army against Gen. Fonseka, were as "committing military offences".
The government is determined to bring a court martial on charges of plotting to overthrow the administration, etc. which may start in a week’s time.
Asian Tribune, although has been supporting President Mahinda Rajapaksa from the beginning, the online daily is not impervious to the opinion of the readers, who might differ with our views.
All our write-ups have room/space below for the readers to register their views. On special occasions, the periodical Opinion Polls we used to conduct is to know the feedback from our readers. One such is now on. It is whether Gen. Fonseka should be court martialed, punished or let go free to be voted against by the general public time and again.
Register your opinion in the poll box found on the top of the first column of the front page of this daily. It is open for a week. Then the results would be announced.
