Petition filed by a Journalist seeking order to meet Nalini in prison dismissed: HC Ordered

Chennai, 20 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Madras High Court has dismissed a petition filed by NDTV reporter, seeking direction to the women prison authorities to permit him to meet Nalini Sriharan, who is serving life sentence in the case of the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India .

Sam Danial, Reporter of NDTV submitted in his writ petition, that he made two representations on February first and fourth to the prison authorities to permit him to meet Nalini, but it was rejected by the officials vide a order dated February 8.

Danial prayed the the court to call for the records from the prison authorities and quash the order passed by them, and direct them to permit him to meet her and record her interview.

When the matter came up for hearing on Thursday, before Justice K Venkataraman, Counsel appearing for Nalini filed a memo stating that his client is refusing to meet any media person in prison. "Under the instruction of my client (Nalini) through a telegram I am filing this memo", counsel submitted.

At this point, Counsel for the petitioner submitted that he is withdrawing the case.

Justice Venkataraman recorded this and dismissed the petition as withdrawn.
