New regime won’t have a mega Cabinet, President pledges

Colombo, 21 February (Asiantribune.com):

The country’s development process should be mixed with the energy of the younger generation, and they must play a major role in the process as it is the war free country’s requirement at present, President Mahinda Rajapaksha told a Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) meeting at Bandarawela in Badula yesterday.

President Rajapaksa, addressing the party activists at the Bandarawela town hall , said that the new government which the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is going to have after the elections won’t be having a mega cabinet as predicted by political rivals. “The new cabinet will be a great collection of politicians who work for the country”, he said.

“Rumors or the mudslinging campaigns can’t stop the political future of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the party always will stand for a respectable political culture”, the President added.

President stressed the right of each and every citizen of the country engage in active politics and said that the political parties are fully responsible guide its members, supporters, activists to engage in cultured politics.

The meeting which was held as organized by Haputhale electorate new SLFP organizer Uditha Lokubandara, was participated by former Speaker of the last Parliament W J M Lokubandara and politicians who represent the Badulla district.

Ministers Nimal Siripala De Silva, Dilan Perera and party stalwarts like Suresh Wadiwel, Anura Widanagama, A.M.Buddhadasa, Nanda Mathew and several other politicians also graced the event which included a number of cultural items by the youths in the area.
