President Intervenes to have a Better Lifestyle for Colombo Citizens

Colombo, 22 February, (Asiantribune.com):

The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) of Sri Lanka implements another much needed project for the Colombo city and the project has been named as the Nagamu Puravara (Build the City) program.

According to the NHDA officials, the program plans to solve the housing issues of the people living in the Colombo city with minimum facilities.

The project has been drafted to finish in several phases and anyway, the officials also hope to complete the project in a period of five weeks. The first phase of the program aimed at developing the infrastructure facilities and improvement of facilities of 354 tenement gardens and housing schemes based in and around Colombo City was launched with the participation and the guidance of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on February 21.

The project includes improvement of sanitary facilities and bathing wells, entry points, sewage and garbage disposal, drinking water facilities and power supply of the Colombo city. The proper clearance and maintenance of 42 kilo meters of roads around Colombo city, maintenance of housing flats and public utilities have also been envisaged under the concept.

President Rajapaksa addressing the gathering said that almost 50 percent of Colombo city dwellers still live in houses with inadequate facilities or tenement gardens. He also said that the Colombo city had become an unpleasant place mainly because of the bad economic practices and badly maintained and managed tenements are only the second major reason.

President Rajapaksha directed the officials to change this situation in a period of five weeks providing facilities to all the 1492 identified tenement gardens.

President Rajapaksha who appreciated the human factor irrespective any barriers such caste, creed or religions said that the ruling Freedom Alliance motive is the transforming the country to a unique and proud nation in the Asian region. President also added that the program which was kicked of from the Colombo city will be expanded to other parts of the country wit the due assistance from the general public.
