Pro-Telangana student dies of burns

New Delhi, 22 February (Asiantribune.com)

The 19-year-old student, who set himself on fire during protests over the Telangana issue, succumbed to his burns at a hospital in Hyderabad on Sunday. Siripuram Yadagiri, who sustained 80 percent burns, died at Apollo DRDO Hospital.

Angry students of Osmania University pelted stones at police and damaged property after Yadagiri attempted suicide on Friday. While the Osmania Unviersity campus that witnessed clashes between police and students till late on Saturday, remained calm with students planning to take out a peace rally, villagers of Nagaram protested the 'indifference attitude of politicians and public representatives of Telangana region' by preventing them to pay homage to the youth when they came to Nagaram on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Nalgonda town of Andhra Pradesh as policemen resorted to cane charging to quell a group of pro-Telangana activists who pelted stones on the vehicle of CPI(M) MLA J. Ranga Reddy who escaped unhurt. The pro-Telangana activists, among scores of students attacked Ranga Reddy’s car, demanding that he resign in support of separate Telangana State, police said. The CPI(M) is opposed to the division of Andhra Pradesh.
