Jayalalitha Seeks Disqualification Of Two Dissident MLA’s : Matter Under Consideration - Speaker
Cracking down on two dissident MLAs, AIADMK today sought their disqualification from the membership of the Tamil Nadu assembly.
The party's whip in the assembly and former Minister, K A Sengottaiyan, in two separate petitions to Speaker R Aviddiyappan, sought the disqualification of L Radhakrishnan MLA representing Kovilpattiand K Rajendran represeeneting Jayankondam, under provisions of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution relating to disqualification on grounds of defection.
Radhakrishnan, and Rajendran, had met Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to highlight their constituencies' demands and also attended the DMK General Council meeting here as special invitees on February 20.
Mr Sengottaiyan contended that by attending the DMK general council meeting, they had voluntarily given up membership of AIADMK on whose ticket they were elected and, thus attracted disqualification.
The State Assembly Speaker Mr Avudaiyappan, confirming receipt of petitions, told reporters that the disqualification matter was under his consideration.
