Sri Lanka Foreign Minister launcheed his personal website

Colombo, 24 February, (Asiantribune.com) :

With the view to interact with the general public as well as with expatriates, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister , yesterday launched a website of his own. He described the website as a ‘two way traffic.’

Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama launched his website, www.rohithabogollagama.lk on 22nd February 2010 amidst a distinguished gathering at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS).

Addressing the gathering, Foreign Minister Bogollagama stated that the website fulfilled a long felt need as it would enable greater interaction with the members of the public. He also stated that the website also provided him the opportunity to interact with the expatriate Sri Lankan community living across the world. He stated that the website would facilitate a ‘two-way traffic’ thereby providing the opportunity for the people to communicate with him on a range of issues.

The Minister recalled that in his capacity as the Foreign Minister he was tasked with the responsibility of supporting the efforts of President Rajapaksa through effective engagements with the international community, in wiping out terrorism from Sri Lanka which had plagued the country for almost three decades.

He further stated that based on the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’ and pursuing a ‘people centered’ foreign policy in keeping with the vision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had helped in effectively carrying out this task during a crucial period in Sri Lanka’s post independence history.

Foreign Minister Bogollagama also stated that the untiring efforts of the Government under the honest and dedicated leadership of President Rajapaksa finally resulted in peace in Sri Lanka and pointed out that it was due to these efforts that the value of democracy was now visible from the north to the south of Sri Lanka. He also noted that the political culture in Sri Lanka had undergone a change in recent years and that the Government was pursuing the politics of democracy and consensus.

Dr. Saman Kelegama, the Executive Director of the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Mr. Bandula Perera, a leading business personality and Dr. Indralal De Silva, Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo also addressed the gathering and recalled their interactions with Minister Bogollagama who had held key portfolios such as the Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion (2005–2007), Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development (2004–2005) and Industries (2001-2004) prior to his appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2007, during a parliamentary career spanning over a decade.

Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Members of the Diplomatic Corps and other distinguished personalities attended the launch.
