Court Martial Fonseka – Majority verdict
The Asian Tribune ‘Opinion Poll’ was open for one week for collecting the views of our readers if the Retired General Sarath Fonseka, who is under arrest and facing charges on various counts, be Court martialled or set free.
The following is the result:
A total of 3457 votes were polled, of which 77 per cent voted (2679) for Court martial for the retired General, 20 per cent ( 679) wanted him to be released. Three per cent (99 voters) were undecided.
The two architects who fought the bitter war against terrorism and were responsible for the government’s victory over the Tamil Tigers--Gen. Fonseka and Mahinda Rajapksa—were pitted against each other in the recent presidential elections, in that President Rajapaksa won comfortably -- capturing 57% of the vote, while Sarath Fonseka polling 40%.
Asian Tribune, although has been supporting President Mahinda Rajapaksa from the beginning, the online daily is not impervious to the opinion of the readers, who might differ with our views.
All our write-ups have room/space below for the readers to register their views.
However we have periodical Opinion Polls to know the feedback from our readers. One such has just ended. It was whether Gen. Fonseka should be court martialled, punished or let go free only to be voted against by the general public again.
The computer polling has some fixed system and norm, allowing one vote per machine at a time. And this result can be taken to represent a sample of the general view of the people of the country.
We take this opportunity to thank our readers who have come forward to express their wish.
