Humanitarian relief to Jaffna people, donated by Sewaa Wanitha Unit of Foreign Ministry

Sewaa Wanitha Unit of the Foreign Affairs Ministry has donated humanitarian relief items for the Jaffna civilians as provided by the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore.

Sewa Wanitha Unit President Mrs. Deepthi Bogollagama handed over the consignment to the Social Service and Social Welfare Minister Dugless Devananda at a function held at the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Thursday (March 04).

Minister Rohitha Bogollagama addressing the function said that it was President Mahinda Rajapaksa who created an environment with freedom, liberty and security almost after 30 years and it was their turn to now go for major infrastructure development projects in the librated areas.

Minister Bogollagama thanked the Sewa Wanitha Unit of the Ministry and Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore over the donation of the humanitarian relief at a cost of Rs. 2.5 million. The consignment of the goods were taken over by the Social Welfare and Social Services Minister Dugless Devananda.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has also made arrangements to donate books to the Jaffna library.

Minister Bogollagama handing over the books to the Minister Devananda reminded that former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadiragamar took an immense effort to rebuild the Jaffna library.

Minister Devananda addressing the function said what the people in the liberated areas mainly needed is the infrastructure development facilities, and this kind donations paved the way for confidence building and peace keeping among the nations.
