Sri Lanka Army Inter-Regiment Rugby Tournament Ends

/sites/asiantribune.com/files/00310_army_001The finals of Sri Lanka Army Inter-Regiment Rugby 2010 was held on Wednesday (March 03) in Colombo and Sri Lanka Army Service Corp became the champions defeating the last year champions Sri Lanka Army General Service Corp to 25 to 11.

Sri Lanka Army Rugby Committee Secretary Major Upali Kotuwegedara speaking to the Asian Tribune said that Army inter regiment tournament began on February 01 and went on one full month and idea behind the tournament was to select best players for the Army Rugby Pool.

He also said that 12 regiments participated in the tournament this year and Army Commander Jagath Jayasuriya was guiding them from the very beginning to the end.

Major Kotuwegedara also added that Sri Lanka Army Women’s tournament was held as seven a side games and was won by 3rd Battalion of Sri Lanka Army women’s Corp defeating the 6th Battalion. End of the time, both the teams have finished the game equals and 3rd Battalion won the tournament in the extra time given for the play.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya was the chief guest at the award ceremony, also Major General Sumith Manwaduge, Sri Lanka Army Rugby Committee Chairman Brigadier Evan Chyandrasekara, and Vice Chairman Brigadier Sunil Wanniarachchi participated in the ceremony.
