Late Sripathi’s Wife extends her Support to the ruling UPFA
Dilrukshi Sooriyarachchi, the wife of the late MP Sripathi Sooriyarachchi who was an active member of Mangala Samaraweera led Sri Lanka Freedom Party - Mahajana Wing joins the ranks of the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance government.
President’s Media Unit in a statement said that Mrs. Sooriyarachchi met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees yesterday (March 4) and extended her support to the United Peoples Freedom Alliance at the forthcoming general elections.
Rumors were spreading that after leaving the SLFP (M) she joined the United National Front and was due to contest on its ticket for Gampaha district.
An official from the President’s House said that SLFP M wing leader Mangala Samaraweera’s decision to be the only one to get elected to parliament from the party had prompted Mrs. Sooriyarachchi to join with the ruling Freedom Alliance.
Sripathi Sooriyarachchi was a skilful politician in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and when MP Mangala Samaraweera left the SLFP, he also followed him. Unfortunately, he died on a road accident on February 09, 2008.
Sripathi who was a lawyer by profession, in 1998 he was an executive member of the SLFP and became chief organizer for Kelaniya.
In 1998 he was appointed Executive Director of the Rupavahini Corporation. He was also the Commissioner of the Urban Development Authority once and an Ex Member of the Press Council. He was also earlier a Commissioner for the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority.
