Senior UN Official visiting Nepal to assess peace process
A senior UN official is visiting Nepal to assess the ongoing peace process in the country.
According to a press statement issued by United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe, is visiting Nepal for three days starting March 10.
His visit comes in the wake apprehensions raised from various quarters that the ongoing peace process could be derailed due to growing differences among the leaders of major political parties in recent days.
According to the statement, Under-Secretary-General Pascoe will hold meetings with senior government officials and political party leaders to discuss the state of the peace process and encourage forward movement in the period ahead. He is also scheduled to receive first hand information about the progress in the peace process from UNMIN officials.
Under Secretary General Pascoe will meeting Indian officials and leaders to discuss Nepal’s peace process before arriving in Nepal on March 9.
Pascoe of the United States assumed the post of Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs on 1 March 2007. He was appointed by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Before joining the UN, Mr. Pascoe was most recently the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, from October 2004 to February 2007.
