India’s Cabinet Secretary holds talks in Thimphu

From R. Vasudevan-- Reporting from New Delhi
New Delhi, 09 March (Asiantribune.com):

India and Bhutan, share common ideas and thinking process, learned from each other and were both committed to uplifting the poorest of the poor, Cabinet Secretary of India, K M Chandrasekhar, has said.

Chandrasekhar had a meeting with the King of Nepal and also called on Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y Thinley, besides meeting his Bhutanese counterpart during his three-day visit that ended on March 7.

Discussing a gamut of issues with the Prime Minister, Chandrasekhar, who was on his first visit to the kingdom, described Bhutan as a “happening place” with great concepts and ideas on development. “The great thing about Bhutan is that it takes ideas, adapts them to its culture and requirements,” he told Lyonchhen Jigmi Y Thinley.

“India is deeply bound in the development process Bhutan has decided for itself,” he said. Wherever we can be of help, whichever field, India’s doors are open to Bhutan.” The Prime Minister said Bhutan was happy to have received many historic visits from India over the past two years, leaders from the government, public and private sectors all driven towards exploring and deepening the cooperation between the two countries.

He said the credit for much of what has happened in Bhutan goes to the generosity of India which has supported in every sphere of Bhutan’s development, including during its transition to democracy.

Bhutanese cabinet secretary, Dasho Tashi Phuntsho, and Chandrasekhar discussed how India possibly could be of help to Bhutan in strengthening the roles and responsibilities of the office of the Cabinet secretary.
