Special measures for infrastructure development proceedings in Jaffna
Speedy resettlement process and infrastructure development projects in the Northern Province area have been highlighted at the Progress Review Meeting of Local Government Development which was held at the District Secretariat, Jaffna, a spokesman from the office of the Northern Province Governor said. The meeting was headed by Governor G.A. Chandrasiri.
Due to more than two decades of constant conflict of LTTE terror outfit and their disastrous activities, all the cultural activities of the province had been stalled, and Jaffna is now getting ready for the Maha Sivarathiri festival at the Thirukketheeswaram Kovil, the spokesman said.
Governor’s office source also said that the government has also made arrangements to improve the knowledge of general public, other than what is being learnt from the school and higher education systems. ‘The government has already introduced a special project to develop the public libraries in the province and a sum of eight million rupees had been allocated to purchase books for libraries”, he added.
The spokesman said that paving the way for general pubic to get back to their normal lifestyle, the government is making all the efforts. Accordingly, at a ceremony held at the Divisional Secretariat Office in Adampan last week, 50 sewing machines have been distributed for selected to recipients. ‘At the same time, 68 another beneficiaries received Livelihood Assistance Micro Credit facilities ranging from Rs. 10,000/= to Rs. 50,000/= each”, he said.
